Hi I'm new to this group. I was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma of the Bartholins Gland 7yrs ago which I had removed. Unfortunately it spread to my lung in February and I've had part of my lung removed. It has turned up again in the original site and am now facing surgery which will leave me with a colostomy and urostomy. I've joined the groups to hopefully get advice about what to expect and hopefully this will go someway to preparing me. Most of the time I'm ok, but really I'm terrified! It's great reading some of the chat and does make me feel more hopeful that I will get back to a normal life!

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis….. staying positive during a cancer journey is the best option based on my 22 years.

A cancer diagnosis can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.

There are many cancer types so the Community has many cancer specific support groups and I see you have joined and posted in some our supportive groups. Vulva cancerAdenoid cystic carcinoma and Ileostomy, colostomy and stoma support groups as these will be the best places to connect with folks on the same cancer treatment pathway.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))
