I feel physically sick I can't eat or sleep, got diagnosed yesterday was told I have a fast growing cancer in my breast, truthfully I knew this some weeks ago while waiting to see the consultant but to hear the words!!!!!! I am booked to have a ct scan tomorrow due to the fact it has already spread to my lymph nodes they need to check my lungs etc, I'm terrified I'm 53 years old and totally drowning is this normal?

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that you've just been diagnosed with breast cancer and of course it's perfectly normal to feel terrified at first. Most  people find that once they have a treatment plan in place they feel more in control and the initial feelings subside. You might find it helpful to look through this information from Macmillan on cancer and your emotions.

The community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the very friendly people over in the breast cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about yourdiagnosis and treatment so far in your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
