Hi,
After a couple of weeks of being bedridden, losing her appetite and feeling breathless, we called an ambulance for my Mum. She was taken to hospital and diagnosed the same day with advanced bowel cancer. The prognosis was months, maybe a year with chemo. She refused to contempate chemo. Within 2 days, the prognosis was 3 months and 3 days later it was 24-48 hours. She passed away 8 days after being admitted.
Not sure when the reality of this will hit....
Hi and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about the lose of your mum, do accept my deepest condolences.
I lost my mum very suddenly back in November (not cancer) and at the time it made no sense as she was well and doing great. It was a challenging time especially as we had to do a long 3hr drive to get to the hospital.
The staff came down to meet us at the hospital front door and once they found out I was in the Clinical Extremely Vulnerable Covid Group I as strongly advised not to go into the hospital as the hospital was in code black and it was not safe for me, as it was my mum lasted only a few minuets once the staff went back to see if they could make it possible.
On reflection it was the best thing for my wider family, yes it’s taken time to get used to her not now being around but we have spent time looking through all the old photos and made up albums for all her grandchildren to keep.
You may find it helpful talking with others who are walking the same journey as this may help you navigate this difficult time.
