Hi there

I have recently been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. It originally reared its head in August 20 but at the time the duct removed just showed LCIS ad mammogram was clear. The bleeding from the single duct didn't stop. I had a seroma after the op so we thought the swelling in my breast which was present a month or so afterwards was related to that. I lost my mum in January to Covid so have been focusing on the Estate as I am sole executor. It got to April and I was really uncomfortable wearing an underwired bra. Had all ducts removed on 9th June and bingo, an 11mm invasive ductal carcinoma was found. Have had an MRI and last Friday they did ultrasound and 5 punch biopsies - 3 from the breast and 2 lymph nodes. They left markers in my breast so they can see how much the tumours shrink with chemo. The consultant thinks around 50% of my left breast may be cancerous. How does it grow so quickly?

Am speaking to the oncologist on Tuesday to chat about kicking off chemo and they are arranging for a full body PET scan to see if it has spread elsewhere already.

Am so scared. I live by myself and since mum died I have been leaning heavily on my best friend for support. We both lost a dear friend to stage 4 cancer last year and I have been trying to put a brave face on things. I wish I had badgered the hospital to get my total ductectomy done sooner as I knew something wasn't adding up. I am terrified it has spread. To get this big in about a year....

Sorry to give you so much info. It feels good to tell others who are going through such a scary time x

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I am also so sorry to hear about your mum, I also lost my mum back in November and have just finalised her estate last month - a hard journey made harder for you.

A cancer diagnosis can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey will help you navigate this difficult time.

The Community has many cancer specific support groups and I see you have joined our supportive Triple negative breast cancer group as this will be a good place to connect with patients and family on the same cancer treatment pathway.

To go to the group just click on the link above then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))
