Hi, still coming to terms with my husbands diagnosis - it’s stage 3 spread into his lymph nodes and into his liver. He’s starting chemotherapy on Friday 12th Feb and we’re both really scared. The cancer is non-curative - without treatment, he was told the prognosis was 4-8 months, the chemo could add 6-8 months to that. He’s had a stent fitted which has caused him a lot of pain in his chest and back and he’s constipated- the Docusan he was given is horrible to take and makes him feel sick, kept him up all night on Monday and still no movement! Changed his medication today but he starts chemotherapy on Friday, so he won’t have any good days before any side-effects from that. Our daughter is expecting her 2nd child in July and we were her childminders for her 2 1/2 year-old for 3 days a week and we won’t be able to see anybody once his treatment starts. Just feeling shit (excuse my language) about it all. Sorry for the rant.
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that your husband has recently been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer which has spread to his lymph node and liver. You are right that having a cancer diagnosis is indeed s**t and I can completely understand how you feel.
As the community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend a few for you to think about joining. Firstly there are the oesophageal cancer and secondary liver cancer groups, where you can ask questions and share experiences with others who have this diagnosis, and secondly there is the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place where only carers are allowed to post.
To join any or all of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your question in the same way as you posted here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your husband's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
