Hi,

I don’t really know where to start here, I am trying my best to support my friend and stay strong but I’m feeling quite lost and fearful.
My close friend has been suffering from lymphoma for around 6 months now and his treatment options are dwindling. They are currently on a very hard chemo and immunotherapy treatment. The cancer isn’t reacting and is instead progressing, I just feel totally helpless and being unable to even visit him is just horrible.
He is a new father and it’s all just very very sad. I don’t know how but I thought someone on here may have some advice or ideas on how I can support him and be there for him. Or even any advice on how to process and cope with this situation.

Thank you x

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community but sorry that you needed to find us. I am also very sorry to hear about your friends diagnosis and it’s amazing you want to support him.

I was diagnosed with a rare type of Lymphoma back in 1999 so do understand the challenges a blood cancer journey can bring but I will always say there is always hope until there is none.

Talking with other people who are on the same type of journey will help you navigate this rollercoaster and help bring support to him.

The Community is organised into dedicated support groups but we don’t have a group for each of the 60 types of Lymphoma but this is a list of our main Lymphoma groups.

    Hodgkin's Lymphoma

    General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma

    Follicular Lymphoma

    Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma

    Mantel Cell Lymphoma

    T-Cell Lymphoma

Have a look and find the best group for his type then to join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. Then you can introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’, you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Talking with others caring for family and friends will help a lot so do checkout our Family and friends group as you will connect with others walking the same journey supporting family and friends through their cancer journey.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listening ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
