Hi guys,
I have recently been diagnosed with early stage rectal cancer. I am 50 yrs old, feel really well and have very few symptoms so my diagnosis came as a complete shock.
My treatment plan is 5.5 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy. I have my mapping out appointment with radiotherapy next week, and hope treatment will start the week after.
Does anyone have any advice to help me prepare for this treatment, especially with regards to diet? I am vegetarian and usually eat a high fibre diet but find this is upsetting my tummy now.
It’s really scary but I’m trying to stay positive and any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that you have recently been diagnosed with rectal cancer and it's natural that you feel scared.
I can see that you've already found and joined the bowel cancer group and I'm sure if you post your questions there you'll get plenty of people willing to share their experiences with you. Clicking on the link I've created is a quick and easy way to get back to that group where you can start a new post in the same way as you did here. Just copy and paste your post from here to save you typing it out again.
When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
Thank you for replying . I’m hopeless at forums, don’t usually go on them, so it will probably take me a while to start using this one correctly!
Thank you once again.
