Hi I would like To help myself and Get practical help to support her. How is it best to join a group to give me us both the support we need.

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your friend has terminal lung cancer but you sound like a lovely person to want to try and help her.

As you've realised, the community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the very friendly lung cancer groupwhere you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with this type of cancer, and also the supporting someone with incurable cancer group, which is for carers, friends and families of people with a terminal diagnosis to discuss their emotions about the prospect of losing their loved ones, as well as practical issues about palliative care and end of life.

To join just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you posted here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

You might also like to have a look through this information from Macmillan on supporting someone with cancer.

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your friend's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
