My mum became ill at the beginning of December 2020 she thought it was shingles...however it did not get better and she had a scan.

We got the results of this 14th December they thought lymphoma and metastatis.  She had a biospy which was delayed over the Chrustmas period. We knew that the mass had broken her verterbrae t11 which was giving her immense pain all the drs kept doing was giving her morphine and increasing the doses daily no one bothered to actually see her.

On the 9th of Jan she lost the ability to walk we had to call 999 and she was rushed to hospital who were rubbish and encouraged her to walk she fell and further hurt herself they did not inform us of this. Finally mum was transferred to a specialist hospital as it was feared she eould vd paralysed if not. We finally got the officially diagnosis high grad non hodgekins lymphoma grade 4. She has had radiotherapy and her first session of chemo.

I am trying to be brave but I can't cope. I am so angry that this has happened to my mum and how it has slso impacted my poor dad. I sm brave with them but I feel in shock. It is like everything is before the illness when everything was fine and after diagnosis when my World fell apart..how do I process and deal with thus so frightened.

To further complicate I have just had appendix removed and a removal of an ovarian cyst which has been sent of for testing my parents don't know zbout the cyst but in my darker moments I worry incase this turns out to be a problem too.

This is too hard and I can't cope  I am either angry crying or tired if alone if not the mask is on

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one really looks to see themselves joining and so sorry to hear about your mum’s High Grade NHL diagnosis.

A blood cancer diagnosis brings confusion, stress and many questions, I know this as I have been on my NHL journey for 21+ years now but I am still around doing good.

Your mum’s diagnosis journey is not that uncommon when dealing with Lymphoma as it can take time to get all the information together to get that diagnosis but even Stage 4 High Grade NHL is very treatable.

The complications of where it is presenting my be a different challenge in the future but let look for her treatment to deal with NHL effectively...... and you need to know that these treatments do work rather quickly.

I lived with stage 4 for a number of years eventually having full on treatment and I am in remission so take this as encouraging.

Also sorry to hear about your own health concerns but let’s look for nothing to be wrong.

You may find it helpful to talk with others who have walked the NHL journey. There are over 60 types of NHL and we don’t have a group for each type but do come over and joins our main Non-Hodgkin lymphoma support group as this is a good place where you will connect with others walking the same journey both as patient or family.

Follow the above link then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens. You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'. You could just copy and paste the text from this post.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listing ear.

I will keep an eye open for you in the NHL Group ((hugs))
