Good morning this is my first post and hoping I have posted correctly.
Without going through all the dramatic details, my daughter was diagnosed with melanoma in 2017 (age 18), after having tumour and three lymph nodes, she has had her three year check (age 21) and is clear for now (grateful beyond belief!). So now I am looking for a life insurance policy for her and it’s very confusing to say the least, I was wondering if anyone knew of any companies I could go through or anyway I could add her to my own policy ??

I feel foolish in just realising that this will affect her getting a morgage too in years to come, so again if anyone has any helpful information regarding this that I could look into I would be extremely grateful.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

That's good news that your daughter is still clear of melanoma after 3 years. I'm currently 4 years clear so keeping my fingers crossed too!

The community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join me over in the melanoma groupwhere you could ask if others have found problems getting life insurance.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your question in the same way as you posted here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

We also have an 'ask an expert' section within the community so you could also post your question in ask a financial guide. They will not be able to recommend an insurance company but they should be able to give you some information. You could also have a read of this information from Macmillan on cancer and insurance.

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your daughter's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
