Hi,
I was diagnosed with breast cancer (also in lymph nodes) 2 days before Christmas. I'd found a lump weeks before, ignored it for a while, then went to the Dr who (unbeknown to me at the time) said she was going to fast track me. I had a mammogram and ultrasound, 3 biopsies taken and was told the lump was very small (what I felt was not small). On 23rd Dec last year I was told I have breast cancer, Christmas was ruined to say the least. MRI and CT followed and showed the mass is in fact a lot larger than originally thought. I am terrified!
I start chemo this week. I don't know what to do with myself, I can't settle and can't think of anything else. I'm going to lose my hair and potentially my breast too. After the chemo I've got surgery and radiotherapy to have too. I know I'm "lucky" that they think they've caught it soonish, but I don't feel lucky.
Thanks for listening
Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one really looks to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your BC. diagnosis.
A cancer diagnosis brings confusion, stress and many questions but I found talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helped a lot.
The Online Community is organised into dedicated support groups and I see you have joined and posted on our very supportive Breast cancers group as this is a good place where you will connect with others walking the same journey both as patient or family. Remember that as well as posting questions you can join existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.
It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listing ear.
Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
Our Online Information and Support Section is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.
All the very best.
Hi Roses 21
Im sorry to hear about your diagnosis but can I just tell you that my mum was diagnosed with cancer in 2002. She had a lumpectomy (twice as they didn’t think they got enough the first time) followed by chemo and radiotherapy. Yes she lost her hair and it was a horrible year BUT she is still going strong and has been cancer free ever since.
Your emotions are bound to be all over the place and you wouldn’t be normal if you’re weren’t scared. When I first found out about my mum I couldn’t even say the C word.
Im in this group because my hubby has cancer but unfortunately his is not curable and I have found that this group has helped me massively. You are not on your own. Anytime you need to talk, rant, sob- anything do it on here- there’s usually someone listening and even just “saying it out loud” helps
Sending you love and lots lots of positive thoughts. Stay strong x
Thank you so much for your positivity. I am so sorry to hear about your husband.
Love and positivity back to you xx
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
