When I was told that I had cancer it didn't hit me in the face straight away, not until much later on in the evening. Then my body went into some kind of shock after trying to let it all sink in. I was quite sick that evening and vomited, still couldn't believe that I had cancer. It told a few days for it to register it in my brain. Has anyone else had a similar experience.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one really looks to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis. Yes it does come like a bolt out of nowhere. I remember well being told I had an incurable blood cancer back in 1999 but I am still around doing good.

A cancer diagnosis brings confusion, stress and many questions but I found talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helped a lot.

You don’t say what type of cancer you have but the Community is organised into various support groups. Our first list is for our Cancer specific Groups. The second list is for our various our Cancer experience groups.

Follow the above links and have a look at our groups and once you find a ‘home’ choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens. You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
