Hi, my dad was diagnosed in April 2020 with Stage 4 lung cancer. He quickly was put on Radiotherapy & started on Immunotherapy - after 6-7 months of the Immunotherapy unfortunately it was identified his body was rejecting the treatment :( which we felt was seriously cruel as it happened to in fact shrink the tumour dramatically! However, moving on he began Chemotherapy on Tuesday 5th January, understanding how Chemo works & how the side effects are, nothing is as heartwrenching than to see someone feeling so sick eating the simplest of foods & smallest of meals, he's on pretty strong antisickness tablets however I wonder if anyone has any suggestions to any types of food that could suppress the sickness feeling at all? As a family we are quite healthy so meat, vegetables, wholemeal foods, brown rice/pasta are a norm for us. I've read starchier foods could be better? Open to try anything at all however we are just a bit lost where to begin?

Thank you in advance x

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer and that he is struggling with sickness.

I can see that you've already found and joined the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is a great place to discuss your emotions as well as practical issues.

Could I also recommend that you join the lung cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have this type of cancer or who are looking after someone with it. The members there can tell you their hints and tips on coping with sickness.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions in the same way as you posted here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
