For the last couple of years my brother has been battling with oesophagus cancer and prostate cancer. Just before Christmas He found a lump on his neck. He went for a scan and the doctors told him that it was cancer, he must have it all over I presume as the doctor said that there is nothing that can be done and have given him about a year to live. I don’t know how to deal with this and I don’t know how to talk to him about this

I am so sorry to read of your Brothers diagnosis, My husband has oesophageal cancer with secondaries in his liver, lungs and lymph nodes. He too was given a prognosis of one year
Has your brother received treatment previously? is it possible to ask for a second opinion?
It is very difficult to know how best to deal with the situation you find yourself in, everyone reacts differently, and you know your brother best in regards to how to talk with him about this. For me, I am very open with my husband, a prognosis is only a best guess and we aim to ensure that this guess is wrong. I am sure however you decide to discuss this with him will be fine.

I am sorry that this is the news that he has received, I hope that he is able to remain as positive as possible, there is always hope, as difficult as that may be to believe in, there are so many stories of beating the odds and experiencing success can be read.
We never know what treatment is being developed, let's hope that something comes along that will work for your Brother
