Evening,
I recently been diagnosed with some form of sarcoma, awaiting results of the sarcoma I've got. I'm in my mid twenties and of course, its come as a shock and i'm emotionally not in a good place. I feel like I shouldn't be reaching out for support, but am I wrong for saying this?
Since getting the news of my diagnosis, this has had a knock on effect on my mental health to a certain degree, am I right in thinking that its alright to have this? I almost feel numb mentally as a result and want reassurance that its alright to speak to people going through similar things.
Many thanks
Hi Hollystripes and a very warm welcome to the online community
Firstly can I apologise that no one has seen and replied to your post before now. Normally new to the site posts are seen and replied to very quickly so I don't know how your post has been missed.
Of course you're not wrong to be reaching out for support. Having a cancer diagnosis is a very difficult thing to come to terms with no matter what your age.
The community is divided up into different support groups where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support. As you haven't said what type of sarcoma you have, I'm going to provide links to the soft tissue sarcoma group and the bone cancer group, which includes osteosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma and chondrosarcoma.
To join just click on the appropriate link and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions in the same way as you posted here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
