Hi,
My husband has advanced prostate cancer, diagnosed 2 years ago. He is relatively young having just turned 53 and we have 2 young boys 13 and 11 and a dog aged 2.5! We learned just before Christmas that the latest treatment has stopped working. He has had pretty much everything he can through the NHS. We are due to see the oncologist in a week or so to discuss what other options if there are any. Having managed as a mum, wife, main bread earner and carer for the last 2 years I felt at this last bit of news that I've hit an emotional wall and I'm exhausted. I don't want to show this to my husband or my children and I'm very scared. I love my husband dearly and it breaks my heart that the boys will be without a father and it scares me that all the parental decisions will be down to me! So I'm joining this forum to share experiences, learn from all of you who are going through the same or similar and to find hope. Thank you.
Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one really looks to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis and the challenges this brings to you and the family.
A cancer diagnosis brings confusion, stress and many questions but I found talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helped a lot.
The Community is organised into support groups so you may want to start by joining our supportive Prostate cancer group as this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as patient or family.
Follow the above link then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens. You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.
Talking with others caring for family and friends will help a lot so do checkout our Carers only (that I see you have posted in) and Family and friends Groups as you will connect with others walking the same journey supporting family and friends through their cancer journey.
It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listing ear.
