I just want to say how grateful I am to our wonderful NHS, my feet haven't touched the ground since my diagnosis.

My first stool test came through as 'no further action needed' but luckily I rang again and Dr gave me a second test. Within a week I had appointments for a gastroscopy, colonoscopy and a CT Scan, MRI then a further PET scan in Cambridge.

On 10th Nov I went through my rectal resection, was fortunate that the surgeon did it laproscopically and I didnt need a stoma so had a quicker recovery.  On 17th Dec I went to UCH in London to have a wedge taken out of my lung.  I havent had the result yet but it is good to feel that these two beasties had gone!

It is likely that I will need chemo because of a lymph node but I'm so relieved that I was treated so promptly particularly with the increase in hospital admissions with Covid.

My friends and family are so shocked...and frightened for me.  I'm told I'm very brave but I dont feel that I had a lot of choice, it was stage 4 and I needed to get it sorted asap.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one really looks to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey can help a lot.

The Community is organised into support groups and I see you have joined our supportive Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group as this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as patient or family.

Follow the above link then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
