Hi everyone!  New here and looking for support.  A family member I live with mid 70's is on last (6th) round of chemo, RCVP after a rrlapse from 2 years ago.  Last time had 3 rounds of RCHOP and recovered relatively well and was active and good for almost 2 years.  This time he has struggled, aged, gone very thin and with Covid-19 this year, has bern isolated and is doen in the dumps.  I've found it hard to watch to be honest snd lately im struggling to watch him deteriorate although he is now eating an okay amount, probably not enough to sustain more than a kg or 2 from his thinest but he is eating a bit at least.  On Christmas Eve he told me he can't wait (understandably) for this last round to finish and after delays with infections and hospital stays, new years and covid, its been so stretched out its seemingly gone on forever! He said he will not have any more treatment and would rather die if he needs anything else however the nurse said on last cycle he wouldnt be given more anyway in his health and age.  So basically everyone is HAPPY NEW YEAR! And im on tender hooks thinking about next...like really anxious.  Any advice or experience on this during covid times? I cant actually go in to any appointments with him which is annoying too.  Thanks xxx

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one really looks to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about you family members diagnosis.

I have lived and been treated for my type of NHL for over  21 years now and as he has had RCVP and R-CHOP I am assuming he has one of the 60 types of Lymphoma.

From my long experience there are lots of treatments available but yes it’s not without its challenges and it does take a determination to live and to go forward (hit my name to see my journey)

The Community is organised into support groups and I see you have joined our supportive Non-Hodgkin lymphoma group, this is the place where you will connect with others walking the NHL journey both as patient or family.

Follow the above link then introduce yourself, post questions or just join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Talking with others caring for family and friends will help a lot so do checkout our Family and friends group as you will connect with others walking the same journey supporting family and friends through their cancer journey.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
