My husband has just had the call that after an extensive MRI scan that he has a tumour in his inner ear about 3cm long
we are now waiting to see what course of treatment he will have
feeling rather over whelmed tonight and a bit scared after reading far too much about it in google
I’m after some advice on prognosis after surgery from anyone who has had this type of tumour
Hi and welcome to the online community
It's natural to feel overwhelmed at this stage of your husband's diagnosis but once he has a treatment plan in place you'll hopefully feel much more in control.
As you've discovered, it's best to stay away from google. We've all done it, gone on searching for reassurance only to come away more worried than before. It's definitely best to stick to reputable sites like this one, or Cancer Research, where you'll find up to date information and have the opportunity to talk to people in the same position.
As the community is divided up into various support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the low-grade brain tumours group where you can ask questions and share experiences with others who have been diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma.
It is also important that you get support for yourself and the carers only group is a safe and supportive place to share your worries and concerns.
To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your husband's journeys so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
