Hello!
I have joined this support area as my best friend has recently been diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. She is 38. People talk about close ones getting cancer all the time and whilst always sad to hear, I totally underestimated how much impact it has on people close to a person who has just been diagnosed.
I say I feel selfish in my header as I think I am. I’m scared, I’m angry, I’m worried I won’t do or say the right thing, and mainly I don’t know how she feels as I have never had to deal with such things (yes I have asked her but I know she is covering things up)....
A perfect example is she is scared her surgery won’t happen because of Covid.... I mean what do I say? I feel like if I say ‘don’t worry it will be fine’ I may be giving false hope and if I say ‘well, you’ll just have to wait and see’ it sounds like I am not bothered.....
So anyway, I guess I am here to see how people cope as a support function, and understand from others how to process information and be the best friend I could ever be.
