  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your husband was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer four months ago. I know how difficult having a cancer diagnosis can be for everybody.

I can see that you have joined the oesophageal cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have this type of cancer or are looking after someone with it.

I'm also going to suggest that you join the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries and emotions with other carers. If you'd like to do this just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

I'm not sure when you mentioned that you're not getting any help or support if you mean medically or practically or both. If you're looking for medical help then your husband should have been assigned a cancer nurse specialist (CNS) whose phone number he will have been given so that you can call if you are concerned about anything or just want to ask questions.

If you mean practical support then Macmillan have lots of useful information here which covers things such as caring for someone at home along with what financial help you may be entitled to. You can also speak to someone on the Support Line by calling 0808 808 0000. It's free to call and they're available every day between 8am and 8pm.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your husband's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
