Hi Macmillan community,

Just to say hello and thanks very much for having me join the community, pleased to be here.

I'm Dave, 41 year old male, diagnosed in October this year with Stage 3c high grade colon cancer. Surgery is complete (right hemicolectomy) and I start my chemotherapy (Xelox regime : Oxaliplatin and Capecitabine, 8 cycles - 1 cycle every 3 weeks) on Monday...which I'm enormously nervous about but am very glad and lucky it's in place at least. I don't know what else to write really, I don't think that having cancer has fully sunk in for me yet...it's a contemplation that feels very strange at the moment but maybe it always will be. I don't feel angry or victimised, but I do sense a certain kind of fog in my thoughts and when in reflective states.

Wishing everyone here all the best for whichever part of your journey your in.

Take care,

Dave.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with colon cancer and it's natural to be nervous about starting chemotherapy.

I can see that you've already joined the bowel cancer group and I'm sure if you post there you'll find it's a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
