Hello, I am new to the forum and hoping to offload a little Cry we are currently at the beginning of getting all the tests done for my mum. She has had a croaky voice for a few months, and a slight cough, so she had her call with her Dr, and was given some antibiotics and scheduled for a chest x-ray.

The antibiotics seemed to have helped a little, but the x-ray has shown an abnormality on the left side. So a CT scan was arranged and performed last week, and an assessment done on her behalf with the medial team at the hospital a few days later.

My mum now has a full CT scan of her chest and abdomen this week, and you can imagine everything going through our heads.

We know nothing, other than this abnormality has been found. It's very scary, and obviously the waiting adds fuel to your emotions and thoughts.

We don't yet know what we are facing, but i feel all these tests must mean something is going on?

These last few weeks have been a rollercoaster of emotions for us all. My parents have none of us living local to them either, but I have gone home to let them know we are all here for them, I needed to hug them both. So this scares me if we are facing anything bad and how to give them both the best support. It's like you over think and get ahead of yourself, but i can only imagine this is normal.

Until we get all the results, we don't really know what we are facing, and can only make assumptions. But the tests being done seem very in depth, which we are grateful for, and if anything found, mum is in the system now.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, a Community that no one really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your mum’s ongoing diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

This Community is organised into various support groups. Our first list is for our Cancer specific Groups. The second list is for our various our Cancer experience groups.

But you may initially want to join our Carers only and Family and friends groups as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

Follow the above links then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens.

You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available.

You can use other methods to contact our Support Services (LINK) and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

All the very best to your mum and the family.
