  1. My mum is feeling very isolated and alone ,she lives abroad ,she would really benefit from being able to discuss how she feels ,myself and my sister live here in England and with the current Covid situation we can't go over to support them.Dad is stable physically on his chemotherapy medication but mum is struggling with severe anxiety and depression, the doctor has put her on antidepressants and zopiclone and possibly something in the day time to enable her to be confident enough to  go out to the shops ,I feel helpless to support her stuck back here in England,my two brothers are there near her but have their own families to look after and I feel that she is trying to be strong to look after dad but in the mean time her mental state is not improving if anything I feel her anxiety is increasing !,they have been married for a long time and mum can't see any hope or future without him,it breaks our hearts when we speak to her as we feel do helpless and wanted to know if anyone knows of anything that could help her especially being away from England and not know hardly anyone in her village in France to be able to chat with.
  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, a Community that no one really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis and the challenges you are all facing

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions on all the family and yes, living abroad and during a pandemic just makes things worse but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

The Community is organised into support groups so you may want to have a look at our Living with cancer outside the UK group as this is the place where you may connect with others walking the treatment journey both as a patient or family with the patient in another country.

Follow the above link then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens.

You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available.

You can use other methods to contact our Support Services (LINK) and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    Sending you virtual ((hugs))
