Hi,

I was diagnosed with breast cancer yesterday, they have taken  more biopsies of another section of breast and think a mastectomy is the way forward, will have results of that next Thursday. I'm a bit shocked really and trying to juggle emotions. My husband is being really supportive but I dont want to burden him with my fears too much. I have told my 23 year old son but not yet my 9 year old son. Feeling a bit scared and tearful. Any helpful advice on how to get through this stage would be great.

Thanks

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that you were diagnosed with breast cancer yesterday and I completely understand how shocked you'll be feeling right now.

I can see that you've already found and joined the breast cancer and breast cancer for the under-50s groups which are great places to ask questions, share experiences and get support. When you feel ready you could copy and paste your post from here into new posts in those groups and I'm sure you'll get plenty of support.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Thank you Latchbrook, appreciate the advice. I will update profile later and copy posts to the two groups.

It's such a relief yo have somewhere to start to talk about it.

    Thanks

  • I found, and still do find, the community is a great place to find information and 'talk' to people who have been through what you're going through.

If there's one piece of advice I could give you that would be to stay on here and avoid Google. Here you'll find the real stories and experiences and not the sensationalist and probably out of date stories that Google thrives on.

    All the best
