I was Diagnosed in Sept 2020 wirh a Neuroendocrine Tumour. I don't have to tell you how that hits you as until then I was a fit and Healthy individual. I always enjoyed travel both at Home and Abroad at least twice a year. I now realised that the days of easy affordable Travel Insurance is now behind me. As a former Employee of a Large Insurance Company I had a little insight into its workings. Over the last couple of days I now realise how difficult it can be to source affordable Holiday Insurance. Now I'm not Commending this Company as I haven't any dealings with them other than an Enquiry. Unlike many Insurance Company from the start it's Data, Data and Data culminating in a quote and on many Occasions far too Expensive for many. This was not the case with the Representative of Insurecancer. Com we had a Conversation which I am only too Happy to accept and no quote was given and I for one will contact them again hopefully in the very near Future to Purchase my Annual Holiday Cover. They are not on any Compare Websites as they deal Solely with Cancer  Sufferers.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that you have recently been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour and, sadly, you are right that it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you have cancer.

As the community is divided up into groups for specific cancer types and also for cancer experiences I'm going to suggest a couple for you to think about joining. The first is the neuroendocrine cancer group, where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with this type of cancer and the second is the travel insurance group where you can share recommendations with others looking for travel insurance.

To join either or both of these groups just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Once you've joined the travel insurance group, look for the thread called 'recommended travel insurance', which is always on the first page of the discussions list, as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. You could then copy and paste your post from here into it for those looking for insurance.

As you've discovered it's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Also make sure you have all the information to hand about your diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of things an insurance provider might want to know when you're applying for insurance. Some providers might ask for a letter from your doctor saying that you are well enough to travel. This could come from your cancer team or from your GP and it might save time if you get the letter before contacting insurance providers.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
