Hi there I was told 2 days ago I have breast cancer by the surgeon I saw at the breast clinic based solely on a mammogram and ultrasound. I had a biopsy of my underarm and lump taken at the clinic and I get those results next Monday. I suppose I’m concerned at how he could state that (quite bluntly to the point where the breast nurse told him to stop and then she took over) without biopsy results and I guess I’m hoping he’s made a mistake. Is it normal for them to diagnose like that? I know they’ve lots of experience and know what they’re looking for but it just seems a bit unusual. I’m 44 and always been in really good health with no family history. Hoping someone can help with good advice
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that you've just been told that you have breast cancer and it's natural that you should have lots of questions.
I can see that you've already found and joined the breast cancer group and I'm sure you'll find it's a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support. To save you typing this out again you could copy and paste it into a new post in the breast cancer group.
When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi Caitybell welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear what has happened for you. Judging by whats happened for you I suspect that they suspect that this is a Cancer but the only way they will know for certain is when that biopsy comes back as that will tell them exactly what it is they see and what you may be dealing with.
It is unusual for them to say that at the clinic as they usually wait to get all the results back and it sounds like the Nurse who was present wasnt very happy either at the way that news was being given to you. This could be something totally unrelated to Cancer and this has happened as well so hopefully those results wont be long in coming back for you and you know what it is you are dealing with.
Sending some huge big comforting hugs your way for now.x
Thank you Gail I suppose that’s what I’m hoping that he’s jumped the gun a bit but yes I thought it was unusual - his delivery wasn’t the best and the nurse really wasn’t happy which isn’t helpful when you’re in complete shock as I’d convinced myself it was just a cyst (and it may still be!). Thank you for taking the time to reply xx
