I was diagnosed with melanoma last year, i had a surgery done to remove lymph nodes from my neck and armpit. They found a small tumor on 2 of the 5 removed lymph nodes that were removed. I started a targeted therapy (dabrafenib and trametinib) i had a rough start and had to re-dose a couple times until i went down to the smallest dose, ive been on it for about 6 months now and all tests are coming back good!! But the side effects of the drugs are still getting to me, has there been anyone who has not finished there treatment and been fine after? As far as they know im cancer free and the only reason for the treatment is to increase survival rate, but im not sure this treatment is really helping me rather than making it harder to get by day by day. Ive changed my life completely from job to diet. So if anyone else has finished or dropped out of treatment for any reason id like to hear from you. Slight smile

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, a Community that no one really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your Melanoma diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

You may want to join our Melanoma group as this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as a patient or family.

Follow the above link then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens.

You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available.

You can use other methods to contact our Support Services (LINK) and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best.

  • Hi and a second welcome to the online community

I was diagnosed with melanoma just coming up to 4 years ago now but didn't respond to your post this morning as I saw that my friend The Highlander had already pointed you in the direction of the melanoma group.

I've been keeping an eye out for you but noticed that you haven't yet joined. I just wanted to reassure you that we're a very friendly bunch who, between us, probably cover all aspects of melanoma and treatment. There are quite a few who have taken or are taking dab/tram and I'm sure they'd be happy to share their experiences with you when you feel ready to post in the group.
