Hi,
This is my first post so not sure if i'm doing this right.
It's quite late at night so i guess posting my question here in case anyone's around with any information.
So my grandad has double nephrostomies. He recently had a TURBT, maybe about 10 days ago.
In the last few days hes had some excruciating pain in his lower bladder. (i guess where the queried cancer is/was).
After the TURBT i keep reading about passing urine, blood etc and knowing how things are going and looking out for problems but theyre all based on urinating the normal way. (eg blood in pee, pain in peeing, unable to pee etc)
i cant really find any info about what to look out for if you don't urinate the normal way.
i assume some pain is expected, but how do we know if there are any blockages in the bladder/ureter, blood clots in the bladder etc?
I dont know if the horrible pains hes feeling are "normal" or if its something to worry about. The pains seem to be getting worse.
He gets the urge to pee but doesnt/cant (probably because of his nephrostomies?) this is when the pain starts then it lasts around 20minutes a time.
Given the COVID situation A&E isnt somewhere we want to go, but the pain is really bad and im not sure how normal that is.
Anyone go any ideas? hints? tips?
Thank you
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that after having a TURBT your grandad is in a lot of pain. He should have been given contact details for his team at the hospital if he had any problems. It would be a good idea to ring that number straight away and speak to them. If they are not available then I'd advise you to call NHS111 to ask their advice.
As the community is divided up into various groups you might like to join the bladder cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have that type of cancer. You could also join the family and friends group which is a safe place to share your feelings with others who have a member of their family living with cancer.
To join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your questions in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your grandad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
Thank you for the information. super useful, il do the above x
