Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer at the end of August after a pre-50s mammogram invitation. Since then I’ve had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Of 7 nodes removed the sentinel node contained cancer, the others were clear. Although I had a marker in place, in surgery the cancer couldn’t be found. So later this week, 4 weeks after the last operation, I’m having another one (the marker was in the wrong place).

I feel ok. But I don’t know anyone else in my position to talk to ... so I’m guessing this is a good place to start?!

All I know about my cancer is that, back in August, it was around 10mm in size and starting to spread into the tissue. The sentinel node cancer is ER+ and HER2-negative. I had a CT scan (neck to pelvis) and that was clear. I’m hoping that by the end of the week it will all have been removed ... but I’ve no idea what treatment lies beyond that. I’m guessing radiotherapy and tamoxifen?

  • Hi Acetrace

sorry to read of your diagnosis and wish you well in all your future treatments. It’s a lot to take in when the doctors start telling you your treatment plan especially after receiving the news no one wants to hear and it is all a bit of a shock. It sounds like your doctors are looking after you well but sad about the marker being in the wrong place, hope all goes well for you later this week and you get some better news.

yes this is a great place to ask questions and seek advice from others going through similar treatments. Welcome to the community and well done on making your first, the most difficult, post.

your doctors will certainly have a treatment plan for you and will convey this once they have the results of all investigations. Typical treatments after surgery will be a combination of radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy and/or medication. I’ve had surgery and luckily just tamoxifen after my mastectomy in September, so each patients plan will be tailored to best help fight their cancer. Do talk to your nurses and doctors they should be able to give you more information.

take care and wishing you well
