Hello everyone - I have been recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer following my yearly blood tests. My journey started at the end of August and following a series of tests I had a telephone call with my consultant on the 15th of September who advised that I had cancer. I found him very reassuring and he went through the options in a manner that left me feeling confident and reassured that I was in safe hands. A couple of days later I received a call from my designated nurse who went through the options and was reassured by our conversation.

I subsequently received a number of documents to assist me in my decision and I was extremely impressed with the documents and in particular, the advice for Spouses/partners- first class.

I have agreed to surgery and will COVID -19 permitting will have my surgery on the 23rd of November

The journey from a blood test to diagnosis has gone so quickly I can only describe it as a journey on a high-speed train.

I wish everyone all the best in their journey and not forgetting our families who are supporting us in our journey that they also have the support they deserve

  • Hi Ps1222

warm welcome to this community and I hope you are coping well with everything, it sounds like you are reading the material which is helpful. So pleased you have had a positive experience, as I have done, 3 times now, with our NHS service. Sometimes getting on the train can take a while but once you are on board it’s full steam ahead. I really hope everything goes to plan for your dates etc.
keep positive and be good to yourself. Share with the loved ones around you your hopes/fears, it really does help to get these matters out in the open.

    all the best

Cancer may affect my body, but I won’t let it affect my spirit

Thank you for taking the time to respond it means a lot. I was speaking with a friend of mine who is CEO of a Hospice and he recommended I keep a daily journal. I have taken his advice and I found it extremely cathartic. All the best

  • Welcome to the group noone wants to be in. If you look into the prostrate cancer group you will see lots of people going through, or gone through similar experiences. I had surgery 18 months ago.  It's worth updating your profile to save repeating. Things like gleason score and psa level
