Hello All. New to the community with a family member who was recently diagnosed and I'm scared out of my mind. My dad was found to have a brain tumor in his right temporal lobe on October 23rd via CT scan. He had brain surgery to remove the tumor on October 30th. The neurosurgeon at the time of the surgery suspected that the tumor was likely a malignant glioma and high grade, however he was able to remove the whole tumor. Pathology was reviewed on November 10th and confirmed to be malignant and grade 4. He will undergo 6 weeks of radiation as well as a minimum of 6 months of chemotherapy in the form of pills. Following the completion of radiation he will need to have an MRI every other week. I have not been able to be at the appointments due to COVID and I am trying to understand what this diagnosis means. My parents will not go into huge detail likely because they want to remain hopeful and optimistic about prognosis. So I am hoping to maybe find some answers here. Does Grade 4 malignancy equate to Glioblastoma? Is it possible to completely remove a Glioblastoma? What is the prognosis if that is the true diagnosis and the whole tumor was removed? What is the likelihood of recurrence following treatment? Does my dad still have cancer even if the whole tumor was removed? I feel like my life has been flipped upside down and I just want to have a better understanding of what is going on with my dad. I am so scared of the idea of potentially losing my dad. Any help that can be offered is so greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi J.B welcome to the forum and I so very sorry to hear your news. You are asking a lot of questions which do require a medical response much more than maybe any of us can give so Im wondering if you wanted to post your post into the Ask a Nurse section of the site. I have included a link which if you click on should take you straight to the section and re post in there.
