Hello everyone,
I'm struggling a bit with Covid life. I was diagnosed with anal cancer during lockdown, in April 2020, and had 5.5 weeks of radiotherapy from June to July. I didn't work from March to October because of Covid. I went back to work in October and had to quit my job on the second day due to extreme stress, almost a panic attack, I had muscle spasms which brought me to my knees because they were so painful. Theyve lasted four days and still ongoing, but dulled a little now, as I've started antidepressants. I can't bear wearing a mask all day and being close to so many strangers. I was working in a shop. Radiotherapy left me feeling claustrophobic. Im now a nervous wreck, and I'm normally a very confident and chatty, forthright person.
Does anyone else feel different since having treatment? Is anyone feeling the stress of life now with Covid? I feel as though I want to run away somewhere. But Covid has shut all the doors on family, friends etc.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with life after being treated for anal cancer during lockdown. You're perfectly right that our normal support group of friends and relatives isn't as accessible as we'd like it to be at the moment. However, you've come to the right place for support from others who will understand how you're feeling.
I can see that you've already found, joined and posted in the anal cancer group and I'm sure it won't be too long before members of the group respond to you. We also have a life after cancer group which you might like to join as it's a safe space to discuss things like the physical and emotional effects of cancer.
If you'd like to join the group just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
