Hello,

I'm new here so apologies if I've posted in the wrong place.

Bit of back story, Ive suffered for around 6-7 (I was around 19/20 when it started I'm 27 now) years with on going indigestion and just always taken antacids and got on with it, about 5 months ago it started to get a little worse and become a daily occurance and was set off by certain foods mostly. I went to the doctors and they prescribed omperazole which I was taking, they said to take it for a while and then ring back. It was helping but not all the time. So they put me on a daily dose for two months, i take it in the morning and it normally prevents me getting the indigestion but without it I would get it. I started getting acid reflux too, sometimes loss of appetite but mostly a good appetite. I suffer with severe aniexty and I'm a ridiculously serial googler. The doctors have referred me for an endoscopy a few weeks ago because of the ongoing indigestion they said they weren't worried just wanted to check but now I've worried myself silly that maybe I've got stomach cancer and now I'm absolutely petrified for my appointment next week. I've got a fiance and 2 boys that I'm petrified of leaving behind. Just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences and would give me some advice. Again I'm awfully sorry if I've posted in the wrong place. Thanks so much.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one ever really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your on going diagnosis and please do not apologise as we all understand.

These times are hard and although I have lived with my cancer for over 21 years I also have had many tests and investigations that were not cancer. The one thing I will say is stay away from Google as it is a very dangerous place to find answers and generates stress and worry. Stick with your medical team as they know what they are doing.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

The service is open every day 8am to 8pm and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here for more information.

You can also email them, use the online chat and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Remember until someone says you have cancer you don't

    All the very best.

I have had acid reflux for years and taking omerprazole my cancer had nothing to do with this, so get the test done to re-assure yourself it’s difficult when you have had cancer not to think every pain etc is a re accurance . Good luck with your tests.

Hi! I can understand your symptoms and anxiety. I’ve had difficulties with my digestion for a long time. Pain, indigestion and vomiting at times. Doctors prescribed meds for an ulcer which helped for a while. Got so bad that I was taking antacids several times every day and feeling really unwell. To cut a long story short, I have identified gluten intolerance. I feel so much better having removed gluten from my diet. The reason I’m on this forum is because my husband has cancer of the duodenum. His symptoms were totally different. He relies on me for many things and I have often lain awake at night worrying about leaving him behind and how he would cope.  I hope your endoscopy finds the cause of your problems and you are soon on the road to recovery so that you can enjoy your life with your family.

    Hello all,

    Thanks all for your comments.

Thought I'd just update. Had the endoscopy, they found a hiatus hernia, reflux and gastritis. No signs of cancer at all. Thanks so much for all your kind words.
