  1. I was diagnosed with lung cancer several weeks ago but haven't started treatnent yet as they're still waiting for some test results. I am absolutely terrified and my emotions are all over the place. I have even contemplated taking my own life. I have a lovely supportive family but live on my own.
  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one ever really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your Lung Cancer diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

I had a totally different type of cancer but hear me when I say that my diagnosis was in 1999 and I am still around doing very well.

The Community has various support groups so can I direct you to our Lung Cancer group as this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as a patient or family.

Follow the above link then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens.

You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

The service is open every day 8am to 8pm and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here for more information.

You can also email them, use the online chat and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.

  • Hi Denp, please do come over to the Lung cancer forum where you will be made very welcome. Lots of people there who all have different experiences with treatment.  It’s great you have support from your family, but being able to talk to people who are going through the same thing as you, is invaluable. I know you are struggling at the moment, but the treatments for lung cancer have come a long way in recent years. Lots of us are living with lung cancer, and have been for many years. Once you get your plan of action from your oncology team, you will start to feel better, the waiting, and the early days are a real rollercoaster, but it does get easier.
