I am 76 and was diagnosed with uterine cancer. I had a full hysterectomy and they found a different cancer in the ovaries.

I was given this unwelcome information last Thursday by the oncologist.

They think they have removed all the cancer and have offered me carboplatin chemo as an insurance in case any 'escaped'.

I have been reading up as much as I can and am worried about all the side effects

I am carer for my husband, who has Parkinson, and all week, in my mind I have been alternating between yes and no.

As I have to give a yes or no answer tomorrow morning, and seeking information at such a late stage,  any help with experiences would be helpful

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that after being diagnosed with uterine cancer it has now been discovered that you have ovarian cancer. I know what a difficult time this must be for you and your family.

It's great to read that they think they have removed all the cancer but having to make treatment decisions is always difficult and it's natural to worry about how the side effects of a drug will affect you.

As the community is divided up into groups I'm going to recommend that you join the ovarian cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who will understand what you're about to go through.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your question in the same way that you first posted this message in the New to the Community group and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
