Hello

A family member close to me has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I'm struggling to cope with this news, and am feeling a variety of emotions such as sadness, guilt, anger, worry, grief, etc. Does anybody have any useful resources or tips on how to deal with this news? Thank you

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that a family member has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I know what an incredibly difficult time this will be for you all.

You have asked if there are any useful resources on dealing with your feelings so I thought that you might find this information that Macmillan has produced on your feelings when someone has cancer helpful.

As the community is divided up into groups I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group where you can share your worries as well as talk about practical issues such as palliative care and end of life.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions in the same way that you first posted this message in the New to the Community group and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your relative's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a virtual ((hug))
