Hi I’m new here, my husband has been diagnosed this week with testicular cancer. We’ve no idea on details yet (seeing consultant tomorrow) gp phoned and asked him to go in yesterday after he realised hubby had an ultrasound, ct and bloods and no one had arranged a follow up appointment or even told him they were looking for cancer.

Obviously we’ll know more tomorrow but don’t even know how to begin to process this. We have 2 kids already and I’m 30weeks pregnant with no.3. Hubby’s never had anything worse than man flu Sneezing face and I can tell he’s scared of what’s to come. Where to begin!?

  • Hi (great username!) and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your husband has recently been diagnosed with testicular cancer. I know what a worrying time this will be for you both but most of us find that once we know what the treatment plan is everything becomes a lot less scary.

I can see that you've already found and joined the testicular cancer group and I'm sure if you post there you will get plenty of support. Another group that you might like to join is the the group for carers only. It's a safe and supportive group where only carers can post so you can discuss your concerns without worrying that you might upset someone who has cancer.

If you'd like to join the carers only group just click on the link I've created and then join it in the same way that you joined the testicular cancer group.

Obviously it'll be up to you as to when you feel ready to explain to your children what's happening and Macmillan have this useful information on talking to children. You haven't said how old your children are and how they react does largely depend on their age. You might like to have a look this information on understanding children's reactions.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your husband's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
