Hi! I'm here after learning my dads kidney cancer is back. Renal cell carcinoma. He had it in 1995 then got his kidney removed. It stayed away until 2015 when it got to his pancreas. Removed part of that plus his gall bladder and spleen. Now (October 2020) they found a mass of it on what's left of his pancreas.

he's about to start Nivolumab + ipilimumab. Treatment will be every 3 weeks for the next 3 months.

my aim in joining this community is to find some community support. Some sort of positive and inspirational support to help him fight this would be wonderful.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one ever really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but indeed talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

I had a totally different type of cancer but the Community has various support groups and I see you have found and posted in our Kidney cancer group as this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as a patient or family.

You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends groups a great benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

Talking to people face to face can indeed help a lot but during these times it’s not that available but do check to see if he has any Local Macmillan Support in his area or a Maggie’s Centre as these folks are amazing and a lot of these services are starting to open up again or have moved onto online video support groups.

Also check this link to the Macmillan Buddies Telephone Service where he can be matched with a Buddy.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

The service is open every day 8am to 8pm and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here for more information.

You can also email them, use the online chat and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
