I was diagnosed with breast cancer 15 months ago and was treated by surgery chemo and radiotherapy. Physically I'm doing ok .Mentally I am struggling to cope  mostly with anxiety but also with extreme feelings of hopelessness and anger. It's especially hard dealing with this as well as all the limitations that covid brings.I feel abandoned by the NHS and am on several waiting lists including  one for psychological support but I dont suppose I will be seen any time soon.

Has anyone else had similar issues and how did you cope ?

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one ever really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about the challenges you are facing post treatment.

A cancer journey brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

The Community has various support groups so can I direct you to our Life after cancer group as this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey.

Follow the link I've created above then choose ‘click to join' when the page opens.

You can then introduce yourself and post questions selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on your device) you can also join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

The service is open every day 8am to 8pm and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here for more information.

You can also email them, use the online chat and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read how you're struggling after being diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

As the community is divided up into groups I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group where you can talk to others who have had the same type of cancer as you and will understand how you're feeling.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a ((hug))
