Well I’m new to this forum stuff!!
OK I’m 56 years old and last October was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer..
I had a lump growing in my right lymph armpit area.
So I had Chemotherapy treatment through Christmas, the last session in Feb 2020.
After Pet-scan showing a full metabolic response I was in remission.
Then 6 months later after getting abdominal pains and going into hospital, a CT scan found no appendix BUT another mass in my groin area!!
To say I was p*****d off is an understatement..
So I’m now again on chemo and off work again and to be truthful a little worried..
Also found out last week that a friend and colleague at work has also been diagnosed with Cancer but his is possibly terminal..
I feel absolutely gutted for him but also guilty because I might get through mine but he might not..
Sometimes I feel life is not fair...
enough from me...
Hi and welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one ever really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your ongoing Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) treatments.
I was diagnosed with a rare type of NHL back in 1999. Over these years I have had multiple relapses and many ‘next’ plans so I do understand how you are felling at the moment, but blood cancer is very treatable with long term remission.
Sorry to hear about your friend who may have terminal cancer and I do understand the guilt but you now need to focus on you getting through this and out the other end.
Talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot and I see you have found our Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma group, this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as patient or family.
Follow the link I've created above then you can then introduce yourself and post questions selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on your device) you can also join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.
The Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information and support. The service is open every day 8am to 8pm and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here for more information.
You can also email them, use the online chat and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
I will keep my open for you in the B-Cell group as I do drop in past to support based on my many years treatment.
Hi Sapper5673
Really sorry to hear of your second cancer, you have been through this once before and that is enough for anyone. No wonder you are pretty peeved about it. You are doing something I would really struggle with, I was dreading the thought of chemotherapy and can’t imagine going through it twice.
this site I hope will provide you with support during this difficult time. it sounds like you managed to get through your earlier diagnosis without using a site such as this so you have other tools in your armoury to fight your way through this to which you can now add using this site. Perhaps like you I never thought I would be writing to total strangers on a website about the dreadful events in my life and could cope with anything life threw at me without them. But this is my third time of getting help through sites like these and I have found they really do help me get through. Well done for reaching out and I hope you keep posting, there are sufferers out there who will greatly benefit from reading your posts and gain strength from them.
the guilt I completely understand. I have never been able to find the answer to that one. I have nursed two wives through cancer. Why them and not me I have to conclude has no logical answer, well not one I can find anyway. If you can put that thought aside and concentrate on your recovery strategy. I hope your friend has some better news soon and the doctors can find a treatment to help him. Is there anything you can do to support him at this dire time? If you find this site helps you somewhat, perhaps it would be beneficial for them too.
You have done this before but small steps, positive mentality, will help
all the best to you and keep posting
