My sister has just been diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer and Im absolutely devastated Im in so much pain! She is currently having tests to see if it has spread Im so scared and worried I just want to lay down and cry non stop! Im finding it hard to carry on.....
Hi JC77
Really sorry to read about your sisters diagnosis and really hope the tests show the cancer has not spread and the treatment path is started quickly.
The word cancer is really scary and quite understandably creates so much distress for those with the cancer and their loved ones who support them.
This is a devastating time for you all but your sister is lucky to have you in her corner, fighting with her at every step of the way on this roller coaster.
Try to take things one step at a time and start work now on how to support each other. Talking to each other, hugging each other and crying a lot together are needed. You will have your fears and your sister will have hers. This is a fight now, use everything to fight it. Research the best diets, exercises and what ever else you can find to help your sister through this and do it all together.
Do cry, I have done loads of it over the years and it needs to be done. Find positive actions you can do to fight this disease. Your sister will receive the best of care from her medical team but outside of that you are a really important part of her recovery.
Your sister will want to deal with the illness in her own way so be prepared to have some of your helpful suggestions declined, but just be there for her. Take her to appointments, help her do shopping when she is really low. You have so much support to offer and she will need it.
be good to yourself and build up your strength that for this long battle, you will need it and your sister needs you
everything crossed for you both
Cancer may affect my body, but I won’t let it affect my spirit
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that your sister has recently been diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. It must be an incredibly hard time for the whole family so it's no wonder that you are scared and worried. You may find this information on your feelings when someone has cancer useful as it also offers practical tips on how to cope.
The community is divided up into groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and get support. If you want to ask questions about breast cancer and the treatment your sister is likely to receive then joining the breast cancer group will put you in touch with people who will be willing to share their experiences with you.
To join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting '+New' or '+' (again depending on the device you're using) and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It's very tempting to use Google to try and find out about cancer but there's a lot of incorrect information out there so stick to reputable sites like this one or Cancer Research. You might find it helpful to look at this information from Macmillan on inflammatory breast cancer and it's treatment.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your sister's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
