  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am always sorry to see folks finding us and so sorry to hear about your husbands ongoing diagnosis with suspected blood cancer.

First, I was diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer (Non Hodgkin's lymphoma) back in 1999 and am still around doing very well so be encouraged.

There are many many types of blood cancer and do hit this LINK to take you to some general information. The diagnosis may take some time and has to be done very carefully but once his type is found a treatment plan can then be put in place to move this forward.

Fatigue is indeed an unfortunate symptom of a blood cancer and can make living a normal life hard work but once treatment is in place this can get better.

We do have various supports groups covering the main blood cancer types but until his type is found you may want to stick around this post so you don't get lost and can get some support.

You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends groups a great benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

Follow the links I've created above then choose ‘click to join' when the page opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on your device) you can also join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

With regards to finances you may want to call The Macmillan Support Services as this provides lots of information and support. The service is open every day 8am to 8pm and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here for more information.

You can also email them, use the online chat and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

I see he is waiting for a Bone Marrow Biopsy, this will give some clear information.

Has he had a CT or PET scan?

Always around to help out as best as I can ((hugs))

  • Hi. Everyone on this site will know what an anxious time you and your husband are going through at this time. You are right when you say it seems wrong that you should have to worry about money at a time when your husbands health is the priority. If you call the Macmillan help line and ask to speak to someone regarding personal finances and ask them what benefits you might be entitled to. They should be able to give you a good idea and help you to get financial aid.

I was diagnosed with Lymphoma at the start of lockdown and was fortunate enough to be furloughed. I hope you get some help and wish you and your husband the very best.

  • thank you The highlander so much for your response, he has just had ct scan last wk and is not due back to see consultant till end of november, i don't feel quite so alone now and thankyou for all your useful information  and your support,  glad your doing well mike .

  • Hi again, when you hear the word cancer mentioned the brain turns into a whirlwind and the noise between your ears can block out rational thinking.

Having to wait until the end of November does sound a long time but on the whole, when it comes to blood cancers, this is not long at all.

It does take time for all the jigsaw pieces to be put together so a clear picture is made, think it like trying to make a jigsaw but there is no picture on it...... but his team will get their and develop a way forward for you both.

Do call the help line as the team are great and will point you in the right direction with navigating all things money.

    ((hugs))
