Hi,

I have just joined this cimmunity as my partner was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and I want to support her to the best of my ability - and I realise I need support myself to do so.  As she is probably going to have surgery in the near future we have to socially isolate to a strong degree, and I find I feel quite lonely.  I'm not working at the moment so fewer distractions (she is working) and of course the person I would normally get most of my support from is the person I want to support, so that's not going to work!

I have found the partners group, the breast cancer group, and posted in the LGBT+ group, hoping to find some camaraderie and support to help get us through the endless false horizons that seem to represent tests before treatment, and then through the treatment itself.  Looking forward to getting to know folk on here.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am always sorry to see folks finding us and so sorry to hear about your partners breast cancer diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

As you have mentioned the Community has various support groups and the Breast cancer group would be a good place where you will connect with others walking the breast cancer treatment journey both as patient or family.

Follow the link I've created above then you can introduce yourself and post questions selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on your device) you can also join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

You may also find our Family and friends group a benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

It’s always good to talk - our Macmillan Support Services provides lots of ways to connect. The service is open every day 8am to 8pm and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00. Clicking here will give you more information.

You can also email them, use the online chat and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
