Hi all, I am helping to support a family member going through chemo, who is the primary carer for their elderly partner. They are home alone, worried about carers bringing covid into the home but finding it difficult to cope with the basics of cooking, cleaning, getting to Chemo appts at the hospital etc. They are over 75 yrs old. Does anyone know any good support services or options available in the south of England.? How are people coping with the anxiety around being immune suppressed but still having care services or even using taxis to get to appt?

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that you have a family member who is having chemo at the moment and that their partner is finding looking after them difficult.

As the community is divided up into groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the Family and friends forum as there may be someone in that group who can help you further.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on the device you're using) and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

I'm also going to link you to this information on 'who can support me' that Macmillan have produced which might be of help to your relative.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your relative's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
