  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that you were recently diagnosed with the blood cancer essential thrombocythaemia. It isn't a cancer that I know a lot about but if you click on the link I created it will take you to Macmillan's information on it.

Unfortunately there isn't a specific group in the community for you to join but if your type 'essential thrombocythaemia' into the search bar you'll find a number of previous posts which mention it and you could respond to those posters. We do have a group called Other cancers forum which you'd be welcome to join and post in as you might find others with the same type of cancer as you there.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on the device you're using) and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

I wasn't sure from your post whether the lung cancer that you mention is a separate primary or a secondary cancer. We do have groups for both of those if you wanted to join them. Click here for the lung cancer group or here for the secondary lung cancer group.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You could copy and paste most of what you've said here into your profile or take a look at mine by clicking on my username to see the sort of thing you could add.

  • Hi  and a second welcome to the Mac Community.

ET or essential thrombocythaemia is indeed now classed as a blood cancer and this has only happened over the past few years so as my friend  says we don’t have a specific group at the moment.

We do have a number of folks with ET post around the site so do follow the search instructions you have been given.

Some of the treatments used for ET are the same as those used for some of the main blood cancers like Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I was diagnosed with a rare type of NHL in 1999 and my last treatment was Stem Cell Transplant and we have a few folks with ET in the Stem cell transplant group.

As for your lump/node being removed this would be normal as this is then put through pathology to check on the progress of your condition and is often used to look at the best treatment plan If and when required.

Do keep posting as we are around to help as best as we can.
