My husband was diagnosed with a rare head cancer in April, he had surgery in May and has completed three cycles of chemotherapy.  Following an MRI scan last week, he will have his first face-to-face meeting with the Oncologist tomorrow.  I'm frightened it will be a grim prognosis and worry about my reaction/how I respond.  Any advice/where to find help?

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am so sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis and surgery.

A cancer diagnosis indeed brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but I found talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helped a lot.

The Community is organised into various support groups so can I first direct you to our Head and neck cancer group as this will connect you with people walking the treatment journey.

Follow the link I've created above then choose ‘click to join' on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself and post questions selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on the device you're using) and join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

You may also find our Carers only and Family and friends groups to be a benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

It’s always good to talk, our Macmillan support line is open every day from 8am to 8pm and it's free to call. Clicking here will give you more information on what the Support Line offers. Alternatively, if it's easier for you then you can email them or use the online chat.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
