Hello, I was diagnosed with a 14cm ovarian cyst about 8 weeks ago. It could be cancerous so I am having it removed in a few days time, along with womb, ovaries, cervix and omentum. I had a brilliantly supportive meeting with a Macmillan nurse and surgeon last week, where I felt so reassured. However, I have never had surgery and since being home keep waking in the night with terrors and panic about the surgery. This then leads to a day of feeling helpless (which I have felt for several weeks now).
I think it’s the fear of being out of control and I am really struggling to focus on the positives. I have been given some beta blockers by my doctor but I don’t want to rely on these to overcome my fear - I need to beat it so that I can control my fear on the day of the surgery. I am sorry to sound so pathetic - I am normally a strong person but am struggling to tap into this at the moment. I have support from my husband and mum so feel totally guilty for even feeling like this and angry with myself when I know people get through much worse than this. I suffered burnout several years ago and have experienced a level of general anxiety since then. I use strategies such as meditation. I just feel lost as nothing is working for me.
Hi Heaths, I’m new to this site. I too have had a scary time since March this year. My breathing became difficult then impossible. GP wouldn’t see me as suspected COVID, March onto May and I was in A&E , finally diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia, had lungs drained of fluid great fun. Unfortunately the fluid has come back more drains more stress. Finally sent to see a lung consultant, CT of lungs then another full body CT . Still unsure what’s going on nothing from the hospital other than another CT. consultant believes it should be lung cancer but can’t be sure. Stress has been the worst I’ve ever known .
