I have been discharged from 2 week stay in hospital with 2 Nephrostomies on the condition I drink plenty of fluids & monitor my intake & outtake, I been advised to drink 5000 mls a day, seems excessive and was worried about loosing electrolytes & sodium.
I’m new here but I also have nephrostomy tubes. When I shower I cover mine with a waist trainer to keep water from hitting it. There is also a clear tape I get from Walmart that is really good at keeping water out It’s called Lot fancy transparent tape. I put this over the holes in my back and it works great. And when you change it does not have a lot of sticky residue It’s nothing expensive and you get a lot of it. Highly recommend it.
Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to you join us but I do hope you find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.
The New to Community is like our reception desk where we can signpost you to our various cancer specific support groups. But I do see you have joined and posted in our supportive Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
Do remember that the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. You may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.
All the very best.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
