  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

That sounds like a great trip you have planned for next year but unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you have cancer.

As the community is divided up into groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the Travel insurance forum for cancer patients group where you can read discussions on obtaining travel insurance.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' on the page that opens. Once you've joined, look down the list of discussions for the thread called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are.

It is best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Make sure you have all the information to hand about your diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of things an insurance provider might want to know when you're applying for insurance. Some providers might ask for a letter from your doctor saying that you are well enough to travel. This could come from your cancer team or from your GP and it might save time if you get the letter before contacting insurance providers.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

I do hope you can get travel insurance and that you have a lovely trip and if you have any problem finding the thread I've suggested you look at just reply to this message and I'll help further.
